Gentlemen,
With reference to the conversation our representa-
tive had with your Vice Consul, Honourable R.L. No83-
worthy, the other day, in regard to certain wording
of the advertise sent in 1 cul trade papers about
Antimony, "e huve the pleasure to confirm the verbal
explanation aude thereby that the said advertisement
was inserted without any special reason attached to it
Fut merely thr ugh cureless ignorance on the part of
the Clerk in Metal Tep rtment of this Office. Since
he returned to Japan the end of last June, the advur-
tisement did not have any attention of he successors
of the fetal Department, hut upon receiving advice
from our London Office, the wording in question hus
immediately been withdrawn rom our Advertiscinent.
"e assure you that it is the instruction from our
1 Tokio Head Office that not only ur trade with the
Allies' enemies is prohibited but it is to be strictly
observed that any commodities we handle is not to be
delivered to any country, with whom Great Britain
al war. Like Antimony, for which question has been
ruised, "hatever sule we inke, it is clearly stated in
the contract that the material is not to be delivered
to any country or person with whom Great Britain 18
at well.
We regret that careless negligence on the part
of Metal Department has caused you annoyunce.
Yours very truly,
(Signed)
Mitsui & Coqwy, Ln.ted.
The Pritish Consul General,
New York, .Y.
